Residential Field Weekend
2-4 September 2022
The Women in the Hills network and our partners, Girls on Hills, are thrilled to announce a funded women’s only residential weekend to be held at the Glencoe Outdoor Centre.
We’re inviting women from all backgrounds, and all levels of experience, to join us from 2-4 September for a weekend of guided excursions and talks focused on what it means to be a woman in the hills. We’ll think about what helps us get outside, what prevents us – and what could be done to help women get more out of the UK’s stunning upland landscapes.
There are twenty fully-funded places available (including accommodation, meals and guided walks and runs). Preference will be shown for participants from backgrounds under represented in the hills including, but not limited to, those for whom the cost of accessing the hills would otherwise be a barrier, those with caring responsibilities.
We are also offering bursaries of £50 towards travel costs for those attending the event.
Walks and runs will be led by expert guides from Girls on Hills, a Glencoe-based company dedicated to empowering women with the skills and confidence necessary to feel comfortable in mountain environments. Different levels of fitness and expertise will be catered for, so those who have never set foot in the hills before will be especially welcome.
In the evenings, we’ll come together for talks from inspirational speakers about the history of women in the hills, along with writing sessions led by Kerri Andrews (author of the popular history of women’s walking, Wanderers).
To apply, please email womeninthehills@gmail.com by midnight, Sunday 14 August including:
- · Your name and mobile number
- Confirmation that you are able to attend the event from 2-4 September, in Glencoe
- An emergency contact telephone number
- Any relevant medical issues or conditions, including long-term/well-managed conditions, eg. asthma, diabetes or food allergies

In addition we will require you to read the terms and conditions on the Girls on Hills website regarding Covid and GDPR, accessible here.
